Demystifying Nonprofit Finance

Financial leadership is a critical need in every nonprofit, large or small. Yet too few nonprofit leaders feel comfortable speaking the language of finance. As a result, many are afraid to use financial data to discuss their mission and impact. Meanwhile nonprofit funding is more complicated than ever with new financial innovations adding to pure philanthropy, and an increased emphasis on impact reporting. How do you become an informed consumer of your organization’s financial reports? How do you tell your story of social impact using credible financial data? How do you develop your financial leadership skills? Join us for this session with Dr. Meeta Kothare, as she guides us through the basics of financial statements, explains how to extract the critical information you need, and how to communicate your story to board members, funders, and the community.

In this session, you will learn

  • How to read and understand financial statements and budgets?
  • How to relate the financial data you receive to your financing goals?
  • How to talk about mission and money more powerfully?

Speaker:
