Interview with a Philanthropist

Join us at our July 11 luncheon -- Interview with a Philanthropist. Here’s your chance to hear straight from donors on their experiences with nonprofits and fundraisers. Everything you want to know from the most effective way they have been thanked to how they decide to support an organization. Bring your questions because you’ll have an opportunity to ask.

Reserve your spot today.

What Kyndel and Laura Bennett value most in their lives are the relationships they have - with family, friends and the community around them. It should come as no surprise, then, that they’ve become some of the most passionate and influential supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Texas. It was because of their incredible work with BBBS that AFP was honored to award them the 2019 Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year at Philanthropy Day.

Kyndel’s connection to Big Brothers Big Sisters originated just after he graduated from UT, when he became a “Big” himself. Inspired by the relationship he formed with his “Little” - Kyndel says he believes he even got more out of it than his “Little Brother” - a decades-long commitment to the organization was born. Kyndel and Laura then went on to become a “Big Couple”, involving the whole family in the relationship they built with their Little, who was of a similar age to their two children. In 2016, Kyndel chaired the campaign for a new BBBS Central Texas building. The Bennett-Rathgeber Mentoring Center is now a striking testament to the invaluable impact the Bennetts have had, alongside their dear friends and previous Philanthropy Day honorees, Dick and Sara Rathgeber.

Tirelessly dedicated to making a difference to their community, Laura and Kyndel’s reach extends outside of BBBS.  Laura has chaired events and fundraising efforts for Good Shepherd Episcopal School, the American Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball, Trinity Episcopal School, the Nature Conservancy and the Colorado River Alliance. She currently serves on the board of Jeremiah Program. Laura and her dog have been a pet therapy team at Dell Children’s Hospital since 2011.  Kyndel has served on and chaired the boards of the Colorado River Alliance and Trinity Episcopal School. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, and has been involved in development efforts for the Barton Springs Conservancy and Goodwill’s Excel Center High School.
