AFP Educational Luncheon:Understanding the CARES Act 

The CARES Act offers financial relief for non-profit organizations and small businesses.  Join Lisa Ivie Miller, AIF  with CAPTRUST and Lynn Gaumer, J.D. with The Stelter Company as they help navigate this massive piece of legislation that contains many provisions of interest to charitable nonprofits.

Specifically they will walk through:

  • What is the CARES Act as it relates to your nonprofit and donors?
  • New Charitable tax incentives and how they impact nonprofits and your donors
  • New loan programs and what they mean
  • Who should apply for assistance and why?

Speakers: Lynn M. Gaumer, J.D. and  Lisa Ivie Miller 

 

Lynn M. Gaumer, J.D., is the senior gift planning consultant for The Stelter Company. Lynn has been with Stelter for over eight years, assisting clients with technical questions related to planned giving and ensuring the content Stelter creates for our nonprofit partners’ marketing communications is legally accurate. Lynn presents a handful of complimentary technical webinars each year for Stelter and is a frequent speaker on a variety of planned giving topics. She authors Experts Insights – a publication that highlights trends and research in planned giving.

Prior to joining Stelter, Lynn worked as an associate attorney for 10 years, specializing in estate and charitable planning. She is the past president and board member of the Mid-Iowa Planned Giving Council (2014-present), a member of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners’ Leadership Institute and currently serves as Chair of the Leadership Institute Nominating Committee.

 

 

Lisa Ivie Miller, AIF®

Principal | Financial Advisor

Lisa joined CAPTRUST from South Texas Money Management in 2019. A native of Amarillo, Ms. Miller received her Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas A&M University and her Master of Science degree from Sam Houston State University. She worked for the late state senator Teel Bivins of Amarillo in his district and capitol offices for seven years before beginning her career in governmental relations for a statewide firefighters’ association and then for the law firm Hance Scarborough, LLP.

In 2004, Governor Rick Perry appointed her to serve as the state’s seventh firefighters’ pension commissioner, a position she held until joining South Texas Money Management in late 2010. The Commissioner’s office oversaw defined benefit pension funds for more than 300 municipalities with combined assets of more than $1.4 billion.  

Miller holds an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation. In 2011, the Austin Business Journal named her one of the city’s Women of Influence and Leadership Texas in 2019.
