Building the Capacity of Philanthropy: The Key to A Sound Future

Fundraisers do more than just raise money—we make positive change happen! Without fundraising, donors and charities wouldn’t be able to transform communities and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Fundraising increases the capacity of nonprofit organizations to create impact.

Your AFP Greater Austin chapter, along with AFP Global and its philanthropic partner the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy play an important role. Through our education, training, ethical practices, research, networking, collaboration and community building, we help fundraisers raise more money to increase their organizations’ capacity.

With your gift to AFP Greater Austin you increase the capacity of Central Texas nonprofits.

  • You educate fundraisers. Nearly 500 people learn from a prominent speaker, panel, or topic relevant to fundraising in Central Texas—from basic strategies to emerging trends.
  • You break down barriers. Through more than $10,000/year in scholarships awarded, you make luncheons, trainings, and membership affordable to anyone.
  • You teach our community. Educational programs include lunchtime programs, networking and mentoring opportunities, and half-day and multi-day fundraising training offered in partnership with AFP Global and local philanthropic organizations.
  • You build positive relationships with lawmakers. When the Texas legislature is in session you help engage AFP chapters from across the state in building positive relations with their elected representatives.
  • You ensure that donors (like you) can trust your gift is being used efficiently and effectively. Through ethical fundraising training, a Code of Ethics, and a Donor Bill of Rights, AFP sets the bar for relationships built on trust, professionalism, and respect.

How does your gift to AFP Greater Austin fit into the big picture?

  • Our annual budget is about $300,000.
  • Just 5% of our revenue comes from membership fees (all but $50 of membership fees fund AFP Global programs that all members enjoy).
  • About 10% of our revenue is earned through program fees and fees charged for job listings.
  • The remaining 85% of our work is fueled by philanthropy in the form of sponsorships for our annual Philanthropy Day luncheon and other high-visibility programs, and gifts from members and the whole community!
