Understanding and Interrupting Racial Bias in Fundraising

In this workshop we will be engaging in the development of a shared understanding of the socio-historical perspectives that have contributed to implicit bias, microaggressions and racism. We will also understand the ways in which our common memory, media, grant writing and fundraising experiences influence the assumptions we make as well as the actions we take.

Learning Objectives: 

• Develop shared language and concepts to identify individual and systemic racism within power structures in your organizations.
• Describe the structures of oppression such as racism, sexism and deficit language that perpetuate biased assumptions and influence differential experiences among diverse populations.
• Identify tools to effectively recognize, acknowledge and take anti racist action and accountability regarding instances of bias, microaggressions and racism.

• Recognizing and Disrupting Microaggressions
