AFP Greater Austin Chapter presents a horrifying classic: "A Nightmare on Development Street"

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky! We all have a few fundraising nightmares--even some recurring! Join facilitator Catherine Herter Ervin for a lively discussion about real-life fundraising horror stories from Greater Austin development professionals and find ways to avoid future horrors through effective policies, guidelines, and best practices. Together we will learn how to avoid the pitfalls and traps that sometimes ensnare the best of us. Interested in sharing your horror story? Click here to submit your name and story summary for inclusion in our conversation. And remember, fundraisers travel another dimension--a dimension not only of major gifts and galas but of estate planning too. It is a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination and the value of a donor's trust. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Development Zone!

Moderator Information:
Catherine Herter Ervin, Director of Development and Communications, St, Andrew's Episcopal School

Catherine Herter Ervin is the Director of Development and Communications at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, an independent K-12 school with two campuses in central and southwest Austin. A member of the Development team since 2003, Catherine is responsible for all aspects of institutional advancement, including fundraising, strategic planning, special events, parent relations, alumni relations, communications, media and public relations.  She manages a staff of six fundraisers and communications professionals and serves as the staff liaison to the Parent Association and Board of Trustees.  She has been a member of AFP for more than a decade, has served in the Women’s Symphony League, Women Communicators of Austin, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Komen-Austin Advisory Board Member, Young Fundraising Mentor, and is a past Board Member and Secretary of All Saints Episcopal Day School.

Prior to her work at St. Andrew’s, Catherine had an eight-year career in public relations, advertising and broadcast journalism, working at WFAA-Dallas and CBS-Houston before moving to the non-profit world.  An Air Force brat who went to three different high schools on three continents, Catherine settled in Austin in the early 90’s to attend the University of Texas.  She and her husband Jeff have three (busy) children: Sofiya, Lucy and Max - plus one dog and a leopard gecko - and when not driving them up and down Mopac or cheering them on at soccer, volleyball, flag football or theater performances, they enjoy traveling, cooking, college football and photography.
